Seeing actual results from an abdominoplasty, or "tummy-tuck" which treats excess skin and fat of the abdomen, as well as looseness of the stomach muscles, can help demonstrate the goals and limitations of the surgery. In some cases, an Abdominoplasty can be done with a very short incision (a mini-abdominoplasty) or primarily with liposuction. In most cases however, a longer "bikini" incision is needed to adequately treat the excess skin. The type of procedure you would require is determined at your initial consultation. Newer techniques allow us to do extensive ultrasonic liposuction and tumescent liposuction at the same time as the abdominoplasty to treat fat in the hips and upper abdomen. This has expanded our ability to provide a comprehensive treatment of the abdomen. Of course, an abdominoplasty is not a method of weight loss, but one of recontouring. Your weight need not be at the ideal level, but it should be stable.
