The Laser Center |
The Laser Center at Loomis Plastic Surgery offers a wide range of laser services including non-ablative and ablative lasers.
Non-Ablative (No Downtime) Lasers:
Wrinkle Treatment: Our diode laser treats fine facial wrinkles with no downtime. Generally 5 treatment sessions, one month apart are performed. Within minutes of the treatment, patients are able to go on with the rest of their day without concern for redness, bruising or swelling. The results are subtler than ablative treatments, but real and lasting.
Acne Scar Treatment: The diode laser is also used for softening and raising the depressed areas of these scars by stimulating the production of your own collagen. This also requires about 5 sessions.
Acne Treatment: The diode laser is effective in the treatment of active acne. It works by reducing the size and activity of the sebaceous glands in the areas treated. After 4-5 sessions, acne has been reduced for up to 8 months.
Laser Hair Removal: We use a long-pulsed alexandrite laser for reduction of unwanted hair. This service has been very popular for many years as a means of achieving a permenant reduction in body hair. We also provide Vbeam laser treatments for unwanted facial blood vessels (telangiectasias). The laser treatment sessions usually last from 10 to 30 minutes, although they may last longer depending on the area treated. It takes 4 - 6 sessions on average to get an optimal effect from the laser hair removal treatment.
Facial Spider Veins: These small clusters of veins are effectively treated with our pulsed dye laser. This generally takes several treatments with minimal to no bruising.
Tattoo Removal: Our Q-Switched Yag laser is used for tattoo removal and is most effective on blue, black and red pigments. Depending on the type of pigment used and the age of the tattoo, it can take 6-8 sessions or more to achieve significant lightening. After the treatments there is some oozing from the site for a number of days.
Age Spots: Age spots on the face and hands can be removed with the Q-Switched Yag or the long-pulsed alexandrite lasers. Since they are on the surface of the skin, their removal leaves a somewhat crusted site which heals in a matter of days.
Ablative Laser Treatment:
The Ebrium Yag Laser is our preferred laser to treat heavier lines of the face, particularly around the lips, cheeks and eyes. While not a replacement for surgery, laser resurfacing of the skin is an excellent compliment to surgical procedures such as brow lifts and face lifts, and to Botox injections. The surgery repositions tissues and Botox treats "dynamic Lines" like frown lines. The Erbium laser smooths out the "static Lines" that remain when not frowning, smiling or raising the eyebrows, and upper and lower lip lines. In our experience, the recovery time has been significantly faster with the Erbium Yag Laser than with its predecessor, the CO2 laser, while the smoothing results have been comparable. This is felt to be due to the fact that there is less heat delivered to the deeper tissues of the face with the Erbium Laser.
