Fat Grafting
New advances and techniques have made fat grafting more versatile and reliable than ever. Using fat from your own body can have some significant advantages over other types of fillers or implants. The effects of a "liquid facelift," a technique using injectable to rejuvenate a face, can also be done with your own fat. | Fat is a normal part of youthful lips, eyes and faces. As we age, we lose fat in our faces, so it makes sense to replace that loss with fat.The area below the eyes becomes more skelentonized, generally producing a dark groove or circle. |
Lip fat begins to decrease causing a loss of projection and fullness. Other areas of the face can also develop a more hollowed look over time.
Dr.Loomis can treat these areas using newer micro fat grafts which he has found to have smoother results with faster healing times. The patient shown above had fat grafts to treat the dark circles under her eyes, along with a mini-browlift done in the office with local anesthesia. Having only slight swelling and bruising, she was able to return to normal activity quickly. (not a guarantee of results.)
Buttock enlargement with fat grafts is another example of the increased versatility of modern fat grafting techniques. The fat grafts are done in conjunction with liposuction of the hips and flanks to help optimize the overall contour. Dr. Loomis performs very small grafts woven throughout the area to be augmented to help ensure greater survival of the fat grafts.
A "Fat Graft Breast Enlargement" is a technique of breast augmentation done with fat removed from the same patient with liposuction. Unlike crude attempts made years ago, when fat was "injected" into the breast with a large amount of fat necrosis and subsequent calcifications, modern techniques of delicate fat harvesting and handling, small canulas for grafting with cross weaving, and pre and post-operative external tissue expansion, have made the procedure much more reliable and consistent. There are still some concerns regarding possible irregularities in the breast and what, if any, effects these would have on cancer screening. These concerns are being addressed by multiple clinical investigators, including Dr. Loomis who is participating in a multicenter study for the FDA. The procedure is also available for women undergoing breast reconstruction. Women interested in being involved in the study should contact the office for more information.
Fat grafting is a procedure where we take fat from one part of your body and place it in another. The fat is harvested with liposuction through very small canulas. The fat is then delicately placed as a graft in the desired location. Your body incorporates this graft at the new site as new blood vessels grow into it, making it natural living tissue.
Dr. Loomis utilizes these sophisticated techniques to help provide consistent, reliable results, while at the same time minimizing the post-operative swelling. When used in the face, the surgery may be performed under local anesthesia either alone, or in conjunction with another surgical procedures. The larger body fat grafting procedures are performed in a hospital or surgery center with anesthesia.
