Wrinkle Fillers
The use of an injectable wrinkle filler such as Juvederm®, Radiesse®, Sculptra®, and Restylane´can help counter the effects of gravity, sun exposure and years of facial muscle movement, such as smiling, chewing and squinting. The underlying tissues that keep our skin looking youthful and plumped up begin to break down, often leaving laugh lines, smile lines, crows feet or facial creases over the areas where this muscle movement occurs.
A wrinkle filler can help fill in these lines and creases, temporarily restoring a smoother, more youthful-looking appearance. When injected beneath the skin, these fillers plump up creased and sunken areas of the face. Some are also used as a lip filler to add fullness to the lips.
It is important to remember that the results with these fillers are not permanent. The injected material is eventually metabolized by the body. You should not expect the same long-lasting results that may be gained from cosmetic surgery.
Fillers are used commonly around the mouth, for lip and facial lines, laugh lines, nasolabial or "marionette" lines, and pre-jowl hollows and jowl lines. Juvederm® and Restylane® are brands of hyaluronic acid, a natural building block of tissue in the body. Radiesse® is a filler consisting of calcium hydroxyapetite spheres in an aqueous gel. It has been reported that the gel may become replaced by the patient's own collagen over time. The results of these fillers generally last 6 months to a year or longer. Prevelle ® is another hyaluronic acid product useful for lip augmentation. It has less cross-linking than the other products which may be why it seems softer and less painful when used in the red portion of the lip. Lip fillers don't seem to last as long as fillers in the face, but Prevelle® does seem to last 3-4 months, which is longer than it's predecessor, collagen.
In our practice, patients are evaluated and injected by Dr. Loomis himself. During your consultation, we will review your goals and the realistic expectations of the various types of fillers as well as their risks and limitations.
