This patient had a rhinoplasty, or nose surgery, performed by Dr. Loomis. She is shown 5 years following her surgery, demonstrating the benefit of newer approaches to nose surgery, in which cartilage is reshaped rather than simply removed. This can help avoid the collapse so often seen in the past with older techniques.
Often a bump on the top of a nose can distract attention away from the other features of the face. When the bump is reduced, the other features seem more noticeable. This patient of Dr. Loomis' is shown following a rhinoplasty.
Nose Surgery, Before and After
The high dorsum and the dimple at the tip of this patient's nose, coupled with a weak chin were a distraction from the patient's other features. When the bump or high dorsum is reduced, the tip shape improved, and the chin augmented with an implant, the distraction is gone and one sees primarily the patient's attractive eyes and smile.

Rhinoplasty

Rhinoplasty, or surgery to reshape the nose, is one of the most common of all plastic surgery procedures. Rhinoplasty can reduce or increase the size of your nose, change the shape of the tip or the bridge, narrow the span of the nostrils, or change the angle between your nose and your upper lip. It may also correct a birth defect or injury.

In the past, nose surgery has involved primarily removing cartilage and making the nose smaller. While this approach is still utilized today when appropriate, the surgical plan for nose surgery is more customized to each individual, and whenever possible, cartilage is not removed so that the long term support of the nose can be maintained. We utilize various suturing techniques to reshape the existing cartilage in the nose. In addition, we utilize cartilage grafts or suturing to optimize the support of the tip of the nose and to improve the shape throughout the nose. During your consultation all of the various options are reviewed with computer imaging to show potential effects and limitations of surgery.

"Words cannot express how thankful I am to you. You've given me a nose that matches the inside of me."
